What you have to know before download free blog templates from online

Happy Thursday everyone,
If any of you are planning to download a free blog template from any site, read this post, first:
I'm a person who loves changes and improvements, actually, who doesn't?
When I started blogging, nearly  a year ago, I was quite happy about my Blogger's template.

But after gaining some experience and more readers, I decided to improve my blog's design and download a free version of some nice blog template, not because I couldn't afford $10 or $20 for it but mainly because I didn't want to give away my credit card number and other personal information to some unknown sites.
After I uploaded this free blog template to my blog, I started getting some suspicious ads (thanks God, it was just ads, as you can guess, it could be worse than just ads), so Apple automatically shut down everything in my laptop, so I had to get the system cleaned in my nearest Apple store.

After that, you will never guess, what I did. . . __ yes, again, I downloaded another free blog template , but from some other website. (I still can't believe that I did it second time).
Fortunately, I didn't notice any suspicious ads, this time, and as if, everything was fine__my blog's new design looked slick and gorgeous, and all I needed to do was to publish some stylish posts. But let me tell you: this story didn't have the happy end: One month later, I noticed that the quality of the photos, uploaded on my blog became so poor that I literally couldn't continue blogging.
First, I though My camera, that I dropped few weeks ago, was a problem, but then I uploaded the best quality pictures in my sample post and they looked awful on the blog, you barely  could see anything in these, (originally high quality) photos. So, obviously , there was something wrong with my blog template , not with my camera.

Meantime, I got a few emails from India (?) asking me to let them design my blog (?) for certain amount of money.
This experience thought me that  as they say: "Free cheese is only in a mousetrap".

I, finally , remembered about Etsy.com that I have never used before, and purchased my current blog template. (Hopefully, this time, I will not have any issue anymore).

Have you had any problem like these, I would love to hear from you.

    1. It's definitely better to be safe and use the basic templates from Blogger or other blogging platform, than take a chance, Gail. xx

  11. Oh wow, that's crazy, Nina! I did download a free template once but in the end I didn't bother to use it so I deleted it from my Mac. Thank you so much for the heads up, this is seriously a helpful warning to others!

  20. This sounds like a nightmare! I remember when I first started blogging I had a ton of trouble learning how to code and designing my blog. I went on Etsy and went the same route you did. All though I didn't experience the problem you did I told myself I would NEVER do that again.

I recently found http://www.designerblogs.com/ and they have been AMAZING! Totally worth the money. I couldn't be happier. They took my sad boring layout and customized it the way I wanted.

I hope this helps in the future. They offer a la carte items so if you want to add to your blog you can :) The prices aren't too bad.

  25. Oh no that sounds awful. I at first used free WP layouts, then I bought one and customized it, it just feels and looks better in my eyes and not everyone has the same one!
