What you have to know before you visit Rome for the first time

Visiting a new country for the first time can be overwelming so more you know about the place you are planning to visit, better for you. Today, I'm going to share with you a few things that I learned during my first ever trip to Rome, Italy:

Let me start from weather:
Be aware that in summer it gets really hot in Rome and I mean hot. At around 9:00 AM it was so hot that it was hard to breath.  Because of the extrem heat, I had to skip many sightseeings that I had on my must-see list, before I went to Rome.

Taxi drivers don't speak English:
But don't worry, at the airport, there is a person near Taxi stop who can assist you (in English) to get to Rome by Taxi.

How cute is this red car

Store business hours:
I was surpised when I saw that the stores were open only from 10:00 AM and were already closed at around 8:00 PM. I was even more surprised when I found out that lunch time lasts about 2 hours, so basically, we had only few hours a day to shop in stores in Rome. Only souvenir shops were open untile late.

Paying by credit card:
Almost every store and restaurant took credit cards (American Express) except little souvenir shops. (When I was in Paris,  some of the restaurants didn't take American Express.)

Loved these narrow and colorful streets of Rome

I've been walking in this street almost every day

Castel Romano Designer Outlet __shopping in Rome:
I have to admit that for me, one of the most exciting parts about traveling to Italy was shopping. So I tried my best during my one-week stay, to figure out where I could find the best deals for clothes and accessories. I bought few things near Spenish Steps, but mostly I shopped in Castel Romano Designer Outlet mall wich was about 40 minutes away from Rome. There were over 150 boutiques and there was something for everyone. I especially loved less known Italian brands' that had high quality stuff for reasonable prices.
Rome, Italy

I'm sure, there are many things you will need to know before visiting Rome for the first time but today, let me finish here.

Wish you all a fabulous day.

  6. This is a well written guide, Nina and thank you for sharing. I find that most places don't take American Express these days so it's nice to know that most places in Rome do.

  7. Yes, AmEx is not well accepted in many places in the world, but good that Rome is an exception! I went to Rome and all you said is like that - but I speak Italian from family, so it was OK. The pictures you took are so beautiful, I loved them, well done! Glad you had such a lovely trip!

  23. Wow! My mom told me that in France, the lunch breaks are about 2 hours, since she works in a place with many Parisians and they really embrace life to the fullest; I had no idea it's true for Italy, too! Also, I didn't know it gets that hot either. Thanks for sharing all this info with us, girlie, I'll have to keep this all in mind when in Rome ;)

  38. When I went to Europe in 2013, Rome was my absolute favorite. It was so freaking hot because I went in July! I loved everything: the food, shopping, architecture, landmarks (Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, St. Peter's Square, etc.) I would love to go back, with my husband this time because last time I went with my mom and her friends
