Should you spend money on Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer?

Happy Wednesday everyone,
I usually avoid having too much negativity, negative reviews on my blog, but sometimes I guess it' must be helpful for someone, so I decided to share with you my experience about this Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation primer:
Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer
Ok, I got this as a part of the SmashboxTravel kit (you can read my post __ Here) and so I'm happy I didn't pay full price for this primer.

From the product label:
"Create a perfect canvas for foundation application with this silky, lightweight blend with vitamins A & E, grape seed extract and green tea. Worn alone or under foundation, our best-selling primer helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and pores for a velvety-smooth finish" __ Sounds like a dream, doesn't it?
Well, now let's go back to the reality:

This transparent, gel-y primer is very thick. It doesn't feel bad while applying, actually, but few minutes later you realise that something heavy is sitting on your skin and doesn't let it breath.
As you may remember, I have dry skin and this Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation primer made my skin look 20 years older and cakey. It looked horrible with my regular liquid foundation, and even worse __ with the powder.

I used this Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation primer several times, just to make sure it wasn't worth to keep it and every time I used it, I felt like it clogged my pores and suffocated my skin.
I'm glad I didn't pay full price $36 which is ridiculously expensive for this product.

Have you ever used Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation primer ? let me know in the comments below and have a lovely day.

  1. Love how honest you are. No to clogging and suffocating foundation!

  2. I'm glad I read your review because I wanted to try it, now I'll skip it!

    God bless,

    XO, Claire

  3. $36 is very expensive for a primer. I love primers though because they make the makeup better when applied.

  4. Thank you for your honest review! I've only swatched this in store, but you are completely right about the consistency - it seemed so hard to work with. I'll definitely give this a pass

  5. i agree, there are cheaper options that perform much better than this!

  10. I really love products from smashbox. A really great review. Thanks for sharing.

  11. I never tried this product and after you review I'm happy for this! In some spot, also my skin is dried and I think that I'll have your same effect!

  14. I actually haven't heard of this, so thanks for sharing it!

  15. I can certainly agree, I think with dry skin it's better to have smoother primers or even spray ones!

  16. I didn't have the same bad experience you did, but it wasn't my favorite primer. I like MUFE's primer and the Hourglass veil primer :)

  17. What kind of primer do you recommend? I'm still on the search for a good one.

    Meghan |

    1. Just like you, Meghan, I'm still searching the primer that will work for my dry skin, that will not make my makeup look like a mask. When I find one, I will sure do a quick post about it. Thanks for reading dear. xx

  18. I've never tried this, but I'm glad you posted an honest review. My skin is very dry so it would probably do the same for me. Great review!

  19. Wonderful blog! I love and i follow your blog, please follow me too

  20. Amazing products! Thanks for sharing! Happy Wednesday!
    Much love, Len

  21. Appreciate you honest review. This primer would most likely not work well on sensative skin.

  22. Thanks so much Nina for your honest review!

  23. I have used it before! Never got another though because like you, I wasn't sure how much I really liked it! Wasn't terrible for me, by any means, but I wasn't in love! On to the next!

  24. I've heard this products is amazing but different skin type different people might be different result :). Hope you find the right one later.

  25. Your feedback is very helpful! My skin is quite dry too! Thanks for sharing your experience here! :)

  26. No haven't tried, and after your review I probably should skip it haha! Xx

  27. heard about this product but good to know that i'm not missing out and i won't be trying this product out!

  28. I have quite dry skin and hate that sensation!!!
Thanx for your honest and helpful review, hun! :)

  29. Love you honesty. It's so refreshing to hear real feedback!

  30. Yes, I wore it, and paid the full amount :( I have sensitive skin, with some dry patches if I don't take proper care of it (say, one day I am a bit lazy :) and I don't dislike this product completely, but I also don't like it completely. I think I have worn it around 4 times, because I had the same sensation as you had - a bit heavy, not allowing skin to breathe... so good you didn't buy the full amount!

  31. We all need honest reviews, thanks for sharing!

  32. Such an honest review is the best!

  33. I do really love the smashbox primer. HOWEVER - NYX makes basically the same exact product for a fraction of the price (WOO!)

    Thanks for sharing your experience!

  34. Thank you for your review.

  35. Try it, it inspires me this beautiful product! :)

  36. 10/10 for your honesty, I was thinking about buying this but you changed my mind :)

  37. Wow, that is bad, and luckily you did not pay the full price. I heard some good reviews about the product, but I guess it feels differently with different types of skins. Mine is combination of normal and oily but after reading this, I do not think I will test it out on my face. Thanks for sharing.

  38. I completely agree! I much prefer a creamy moisturizing primer!

  39. OMG, Nina! This is sooooo true! I received two of this travel size in subscription box and it makes my dry skin looks so horrible and cakey! Glad to know I'm not the only one having this problem.

  40. i have a sample of this and it really doesn't do it for me!
    thanks for your review! :D

    Have a great day!

  41. I agree with you on this one, I used it once and sent it to the trash

  42. I think it's probably better for oily skin types, but there are so many dupes of this primer that I don't think it is worth the extra cash anyway. Thanks for sharing, love your reviews x

  44. Thank you for sharing your honest review... It was really helpful :)

  45. Thank you for reviewing!!

  46. I always appreciate an honest review of a product, so thank you for sharing with us!

  47. Great review! I've used the smashbox primer from a sample I got at Sephora. I only use it on really hot humid days and it seems to help keep my liquid foundation intact.

  48. I've been back and fourth about buying this, so I'm happy to see a review! Looks like I will be staying away!

  49. Never tried this before and now I won't be thanks for sharing hon.

  50. I actually tried this product once, and had a similar experience. I have dry skin, but this primer made it look like it was super oily and clogged. Such a waist of money. Anyway, thanks so much for sharing your opinion and have a nice day tomorrow:)

  51. Shame that it didn't work for you, but thanks for sharing an honest review :)

  52. Thank you for sharing your honest review! It's too bad it didn't work for you.

  53. Definitely not worth paying $36 for full size. So good that you share this review though because I have sensitive skin and like to read about how others react to products both negatively and positively.

  54. 1st time on your blog and I'm loving it. Such a clean layout and so much useful information. I used to love smashbox but there are so many dups that do the same thing (drugstore brands). Thanks for an honest review!

  55. Amazing post! Love this! Happy Wednesday!
    much love, Len

Chanel Le Blanc Light Creator Brightening Makeup Base SPF 40 Sunscreen review

Happy Wednesday lovelies, After a little breack I'm back to blogging and I want to show you guys this Chanel Le Blanc Light Creator Brightening Makeup Base SPF 40 .
You may remember I was so disapointed with Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer (you can read about it __ Here) and I'm so happy I found one that I can  at least, use. It's probably not the best primer on the market but with the proper foundation it can work . The label claims:
"Now enriched with SPF 40, this lightweight, oil-free formula enhances radiance and extends the wear of foundation for an all-day rosy glow. A new yellow-based shade, Mimosa, provides sheer coverage to help visibly correct the appearance of shadows and unevenness."
