Should you spend money on Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer?

Happy Wednesday everyone,
I usually avoid having too much negativity, negative reviews on my blog, but sometimes I guess it' must be helpful for someone, so I decided to share with you my experience about this Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation primer:
Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer
Ok, I got this as a part of the SmashboxTravel kit (you can read my post __ Here) and so I'm happy I didn't pay full price for this primer.

From the product label:
"Create a perfect canvas for foundation application with this silky, lightweight blend with vitamins A & E, grape seed extract and green tea. Worn alone or under foundation, our best-selling primer helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and pores for a velvety-smooth finish" __ Sounds like a dream, doesn't it?
Well, now let's go back to the reality:

This transparent, gel-y primer is very thick. It doesn't feel bad while applying, actually, but few minutes later you realise that something heavy is sitting on your skin and doesn't let it breath.
As you may remember, I have dry skin and this Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation primer made my skin look 20 years older and cakey. It looked horrible with my regular liquid foundation, and even worse __ with the powder.

I used this Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation primer several times, just to make sure it wasn't worth to keep it and every time I used it, I felt like it clogged my pores and suffocated my skin.
I'm glad I didn't pay full price $36 which is ridiculously expensive for this product.

Have you ever used Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation primer ? let me know in the comments below and have a lovely day.

  3. $36 is very expensive for a primer. I love primers though because they make the makeup better when applied.

  4. Thank you for your honest review! I've only swatched this in store, but you are completely right about the consistency - it seemed so hard to work with. I'll definitely give this a pass

  15. I can certainly agree, I think with dry skin it's better to have smoother primers or even spray ones!

  16. I didn't have the same bad experience you did, but it wasn't my favorite primer. I like MUFE's primer and the Hourglass veil primer :)

    1. Just like you, Meghan, I'm still searching the primer that will work for my dry skin, that will not make my makeup look like a mask. When I find one, I will sure do a quick post about it. Thanks for reading dear. xx

  28. Yes, I wore it, and paid the full amount :( I have sensitive skin, with some dry patches if I don't take proper care of it (say, one day I am a bit lazy :) and I don't dislike this product completely, but I also don't like it completely. I think I have worn it around 4 times, because I had the same sensation as you had - a bit heavy, not allowing skin to breathe... so good you didn't buy the full amount!

  35. Wow, that is bad, and luckily you did not pay the full price. I heard some good reviews about the product, but I guess it feels differently with different types of skins. Mine is combination of normal and oily but after reading this, I do not think I will test it out on my face. Thanks for sharing.

  41. I think it's probably better for oily skin types, but there are so many dupes of this primer that I don't think it is worth the extra cash anyway. Thanks for sharing, love your reviews x
